Unloading and unpacking
Upon arriving at your
new home, you’ve got a lot of work
ahead of you. Unloading and unpacking your
boxes in an organized way will make your
work shorter and help you to get settled
in as soon as possible.
First of all, make sure you’ve got
your supplies within reach: you’ll
need a box cutter and garbage bags at the
very least.
Begin by bringing in all of largest items
first. Furniture and appliances are included
in this list. Place them in the rooms they
belong in, and set them up in the configuration
you want; that way you can continue placing
smaller items around them accordingly.
If you have to break up your move into
more than one day’s work, be sure to
bring in your necessities next. Kitchen items
such as cookware, plates, and silverware
will be needed almost immediately, as will
toiletries, towels, sheets, blankets, and
pillows. Additionally, if your phone service
is already connected, you may want to unpack
a telephone so you can make and receive calls
right away.
As you bring in the rest of your boxes,
continue getting organized. Unpack a few
boxes and put away their contents, then move
on to a few more boxes. As you accumulate
more and more empty boxes, break them down
and stack them flat for easy disposal.
Rotate throughout the house from room to
room, unloading boxes and unpacking them.
This way, no particular room will be less
settled than any other, and the entire house
will be organized before you know it.
