Moving to Maine
The gorgeous state of Maine boasts world-famous lobster and over 5,000 miles of coastline, more than California. The state has one of the most comfortable summer climates in the U.S. and is recognized as one of the most healthful states in the nation, with summer daytime temperatures averaging about 70° F, and a few weeks occasionally hitting the 90s. Summer nights are usually cool and comfortable. In winter, temperatures average about 22° F, but prolonged cold spells are rare, making Maine very popular with skiers and other winter sports enthusiasts.
Maine became the 23rd state in 1820. Maine has a population of 1.2 million people and is as big as the other five New England states combined. Nicknamed the "vacation state," there are over 32,000 miles of rivers and streams; 6,000 lakes and ponds; and 17 million acres of forest. Whale watching is a popular Maine attraction as are alpine and cross country skiing and white water rafting. Maine is a year-round paradise.
