Moving to Indiana
Indiana became the 19th state in 1816. The name Indiana was created by Congress in 1800. It simply means the land of the Indians. The state nickname is the Hoosier State and residents are called Hoosiers. The origin of that word has many theories, but the general consensus is that the original meaning of Hoosier was a poor farmer. The name stuck and all Indianans and the student body of Indiana University are now called Hoosiers. The speculation about the name has become a part of Indiana folklore.
